Ballistic Sims

Ballistic Sims (Heads, Torsos, Hands and Bodies/dummies) are life-size, complex combinations of analogue brought together to provide a simulate that can be used for a number of technical applications; such as forensic analysis, sniper training and PPE evaluation.

These analogues are configurable in a number of ways to best suit your needs. If you have a requirement that is not included, please contact our team for more information and to discuss how we can meet your needs.

HEAD

Ballistic Sim Heads are made from Ballistic Gel (20% NATO density) or Ballistic Soap. This material encapsulates an optional polyurethane skull with jaw and teeth. Within the skull is a further optional material such as a simulated brain, blood, ballistic gel/ballistic soap.

Ballistic Sim heads have a wooden base that stabilises the ballistic sim. Ensure this is done carefully and (if needed) additional tethers are added to hold the head in place.

TORSO

The torso consists of flesh material (either Ballistic Gel or Ballistic Soap) displaying standard chest anatomical features.

Base Materials:

  • 260A (20% NATO mix) - This is the standard for ballistic testing. Made from natural, technical gel. This offers the ability to embed other analogues into the cast gel. This gel has Extender added to the product to increase the shelf life. Unlike 10% mixtures, 20% is calibrated up to temperatures of 14C.

  • Ballistic Soap - Ballistic soap provides a new set of data for testing armour and penetration. Unlike gel analogue, our ballistic soap expands with the temporary cavity and remains open allowing you to calculate energy imparted. Currently we offer this as a stand-alone product.

Skeleton:

The skeleton is an option which is cast into the torso. Made from polyurethane, this analogue is an accepted material for the purpose of ballistic testing and has an accurate shape to provide extra aesthetics. The inclusion of this option allows the torso to retain its strength and form after an initial strike. This includes accurate internal bone structure.  The spine has an internal metal rod (This can be replaced with wood on request) supporting the structure within the spinal column, whilst allowing damage to the spine itself to be represented.

Organs:

The organ option provides the ability to generate hydraulic effects within the chest. This is useful for forensic testing. The organs come in the following options:

  • 5% lungs, heart and liver - Placed in the correct positions within the torso, the organs have a film skin separating the main material with the internal organ material.

Organs can have blood added also.

HAND

Simulant hand (Right) made from 20% ballistic gel. Our ballistic sim hand is made from 20% (NATO) density ballistic gel and has outstanding detail. This product is perfect for testing medical procedures or PPE. We can arrange for custom hands to be created on request.

Size: 11cm L x 9cm W x 4cm H (palm), 21cm L x 14cm W x 5cm H (Total)

This product is configurable and can include bones on request (additional costs apply).

USING YOUR SIM

Our sims often come with a stand to hold the product upright into the normal operating position. It is recommended that when used with projectiles that the sims are tethered in place. This will ensure that the sim will not move too much when impacted.

STORAGE

Before you used your sim, keep it in the original packaging. For Ballistic Gel material products it is important to keep the sims clean, cool and out of direct sunlight. Ballistic Gel Sims have a cast shelf life of 1 week and Ballistic Soap Sims have a cast shelf life of up to 1 year.
