Extender

Extender is a preservative designed to be used in conjunction with natural ballistic gel and extends the gel life (cast) up to 6 weeks in optimum conditions. Extender will reduce or stop common mould formation on cast gel which would otherwise cause the gel to breakdown. Extender will also reduce the foam that can form on the surface of ballistic gel due to air, aiding a clearer gel.

INSTRUCTIONS

The use of this product requires a change to water / gel quantities (normally 90% water and 10% gel by weight).

When measuring your gel / water ratios, reduce your water by 1% but continue to use the same amount of gel powder. Measure out the same 1% of Extender into your measuring cup. When you have heated your gel / water mixture, slowly add the Extender to the gel / water mixture and stir slowly. It is advised to do this with good ventilation as the Extender has an alcohol carrier. Do not use this product near any source of ignition. When mixed, you can allow to set as per the normal ballistic gel procedure.

Example:
Using our 6.5L Rifle Block Kit, empty the 650g gel pack into the mould and instead of adding 5,850ml of water, reduce the water by 58.5ml (1%). When the gel / water is mixed and heated, you can then add 58.5ml of Extender.

When cast, ballistic gel should be refrigerated and kept in an air tight container or wrapped in plastic film. This ensures the gel will not dry out due to the extended shelf life.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Cautions:

• Extender is toxic if consumed and is irritating to the skin, eyes and lungs if exposed or inhaled. Use gloves and goggles where necessary. This product produces highly flammable vapour and liquid when not diluted. Extender is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. See MSDS/SDS.

First Aid:

  • Eye Contact - Check for and remove any contact lenses. Immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Cold water may be used. Do not use an eye ointment. Seek medical attention.

  • Skin Contact - After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Gently and thoroughly wash the contaminated skin with running water and non-abrasive and disinfectant soap. Be particularly careful to clean folds, crevices, creases and groin. Cold water may be used. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing.

  • Serious Skin Contact - Wash with a disinfectant soap and cover the contaminated skin with an anti-bacterial cream. Seek immediate medical attention.

  • Inhalation - Allow the victim to rest in a well ventilated area. Seek immediate medical attention if irritation or breathlessness occurs.

  • Serious Inhalation - Evacuate the victim to a safe area as soon as possible. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If the victim is not breathing, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Seek immediate medical attention.

  • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Examine the lips and mouth to ascertain whether the tissues are damaged, a possible indication that the toxic material was ingested; the absence of such signs, however, is not conclusive. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. If the victim is not breathing, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Seek immediate medical attention.

    Spillage:

  • Small Spill - Dilute with water and mop up, or absorb with an inert dry material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container.

  • Large Spill - Flammable liquid. Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Stop leak if without risk. Absorb with DRY earth, sand or other non-combustible material. Do not touch spilled material. Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas; dike if needed.

    Storage:

    • Flammable materials should be stored in a separate safety storage cabinet or room. Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Keep container tightly closed. Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Ground all equipment containing material. Keep container dry. Keep in a cool place.
