Synthetic Ballistic Gel Information
Synthetic ballistic gel offers a versatile solution for various applications, making it an invaluable tool for those in fields that require accurate ballistic testing and analysis. Its unique properties allow it to mimic the density and behaviour of human tissue, providing realistic results when testing the impact of projectiles.
KEY FEATURES
Clarity and Visibility: The clear formulation of Synthetic ballistic gel allows users to easily observe the effects of projectiles, making it ideal for educational demonstrations and forensic analysis.
Temperature Resilience: Unlike natural ballistic gel, which can be affected by environmental conditions, Synthetic ballistic gel maintains its integrity and performance regardless of temperature variations, ensuring consistent results.
Water insoluble: This gel is completely insoluble in water, making it suitable for use in various environments, including outdoor testing scenarios where water may be present.
Reusable and Economical: The ability to melt and reshape the gel means that users can conduct multiple tests without needing to purchase new gel each time, significantly reducing costs over time.
CALIBRATION
10% Forensic - This is the standard calibration for ballistic gel.
MELTING/REUSING
Cut the wound track and any debris from your gel block leaving the clean gel (if you have a block form product).
Cut or rip your gel into smaller pieces (chips).
Using a metal or non-silicone heat resistant mould, fill your mould with the gel pieces.
Heat your gel in your mould to 120°C-140°C until all of the gel has melted and until all bubbles have dissipated.
Allow your gel to cool fully to room temperature and then remove carefully from your mould.
If required, a heat gun can be used to “polish” the surface of the gel or repair any surface damage.
RECYCLING
You can recycle any non-lead contaminated gel under the plastic recycling category Type 6.
STORAGE
Store at room temperature in a dry location.
WARNINGS
When liquid this product will remain hot for a long period of time. As with any hot liquid, ensure care is taken when moving the gel whilst cooling.
